Amorphous silicon is a non-crystalline form of silicon used in thin-film solar cells. While it has a lower efficiency (around 6-9%) than CdTe or CIGS, a-Si is very lightweight and flexible, making it useful for applications like windows or semi-transparent surfaces in BIPV. Its low-cost production process makes it suitable for smaller, less demanding solar applications in buildings.
